The United Way of Superior-Douglas County recently awarded $5,000 to people in Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas counties as part of a sweepstakes to increase support for the organization's capital campaign. Sweepstakes winners took part in a promotion to increase their United Way contributions or to join the network of supporters.
Carol Pufall of BMO bank in Ashland and Tom Kelleher of Superior, an employee of St.Luke's in Duluth became new contributors this year; and WITC-Superior employees Mary Frostman of Iron River and Ann Charbonneau of Douglas County; and Eileen Olson of Younker's at the Mariner Mall increased their annual contributions by $26 or more. Each sweepstakes winner was awarded a $1,000 check.
The United Way of Superior-Douglas County also serves the Ashland, Bayfield, and Minong communities.
"We are currently at 81 percent of our goal; which is $370,000," said Kathi Madsen, United Way director. "People are encouraged to continue to contribute to our campaign."

The United Way of Superior-Douglas County serves Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas Counties, and Minong, from our Superior office on the corner of Belknap and Tower.
