Welcome

With your help, the United Way of Superior-Douglas County supports local programs and services and works with them to find ways to meet community needs. And there are many services offered to address these needs by United Way agencies; services like after-school programs and mentoring, health care, rehabilitation for workers with disabilities, shelter for victims of abuse, and care for the elderly.

'Everyday Teachable Moments' Application Request

The United Way of Superior-Douglas County is accepting applications for a twelve-month funding year from June 16, 2008 through June 15, 2009 to implement activities which will enhance the 'Everyday Teachable Moments' Community Impact Initiative. The purpose of the program is to provide resources geared toward children ages 3 - 5 years old whose primary caregivers are family, friends, and relatives to increase social, emotional, sensory, motor, language, literacy and/or cognitive development as well as participation in art and music.

If you're interested in applying (or just curious) you can download a copy of the application form using one of the links in the "Download application form" box. Applications are due by April 18, 2008.

Letter Carriers Food Drive

It's that time of year again: on Saturday, May 10, 2008 our letter carriers will be travelling around town to collect food to help restock local community food banks, pantries and shelters.

The national "Stamp out Hunger" Food Drive, currently in its 16th year, was scheduled for the second Saturday in May for a very important reason -- food bank donations tend to decrease after the winter holidays, but during the summer children don't have the access to the breakfast or lunch programs through the school system that they normally have the rest of the year.

What can you do to help?

To participate in the food drive, collect and bag non-perishable food items. Then place them by your mailbox on Saturday, May 10.

Also, you can help get the word out by telling a friend, posting a flyer, or including the "Stamp Out Hunger" widget on your website or blog.
