WHY EARLY CHILDHOOD LITERACY:

Every child should have the same chance for academic success and families should have the support they need to assist them. When children achieve reading readiness, they have a head start in school and in life.

United Way of Superior-Douglas County’s vision for the future:
Our community works together to ensure children read at grade level.

Strategies for Success

  • Lead or support community collaboration of providers and community leaders to work together to ensure resources are available to support early childhood literacy
  • Educate parents and care-givers on the importance of their role in helping their children achieve reading readiness utilizing a variety of innovative methods and techniques
  • Create/expand coordinated early childhood, school and community opportunities to support improvement and success in reading readiness
  • Connect mentors or other role-models with literacy programs and activities that will make a positive difference in the life of a child

Goals for our Community

  • Families have the support they need to assist their children in reading at grade level
  • Children achieve reading readiness goals and have the help they need to succeed in school
