Financials
We have been involved in funding three of the not-for-profit agencies that provided services to the Ashland and Bayfield residents during the last two years – The Brick, ABC Healthy Families, and New Day Shelter. Community members from the Ashland area reviewed applications from five agencies requesting funding. The group, working independently, recommended funding levels for the 5 agencies. Recommendations go to our United Way Board of Directors for a final decision.
We no longer fund agencies, but rather programs; it is the responsibility of the agencies to submit semi-annual and annual outcome measurement reports based on the information they gave us when they requested funding. This cycle is repeated for most programs every two years.
Each year as the new campaign begins, generally around September, we try to make sure that the businesses in both Ashland and Bayfield understand that their pledges can be designated to a specific not-for-profit organization in their community. For the first two years, and again this year, if the donor lives and works in either Ashland or Bayfield and forgets to designate their pledge, we make sure that it goes back to the community where the donor pledged.
If anyone wants more information, or would like to run a workplace campaign, we will gladly help in any way we can.
If a not-for-profit agency has a program that addresses one of our three Community Impact Initiatives – Early Childhood Literacy/Kindergarten Readiness, At-Risk Youth, or Homelessness, they may request to be on the mailing list (or e-mail list) to receive the next Request For Proposals, which should be available in January 2012. As we’ve moved our fiscal year to a July 1st date, we have made every effort to align other programs and internal processes. Funding cycles will, most likely, change in 2012 to align with our fiscal year.
